Leather Quality Ranking
Not all leather is created equal. The percentage shows how much of the original hide surface is preserved — higher means stronger, more durable, more character.
Durability Score by Type
Scored out of 100 based on abrasion resistance, tensile strength, water resistance, and aging characteristics.
Price per Square Foot
Raw material cost varies dramatically by type. These are 2026 US wholesale ranges.
Expected Lifespan Comparison
How long each leather type lasts with regular use. Gold bars show lifespan with proper conditioning and care.
The Italian Leather Myth: "Italian leather" describes where leather is tanned or finished — not a quality grade. Italy exports $3.2B in leather goods annually, but imports raw hides from South America and Europe. Most commercial Italian leather is corrected-grain (top grain), not full grain. Always ask for the grade, not the origin.
